Edgecombe Community College
A part of the North Carolina Community College system, the Edgecombe Community College is a multi-campus institution with campuses in Tarboro and Rocky Mount, North Carolina. It was established in 1967 originally as an extension unit of Wilson County Technical Institute. The college averages around 9,500 students in enrollment each year, spanning both credit and non-credit courses offered.
Edgecombe Community College offers a wide selection of degree programs in various areas of study. Programs offered include Biotechnology, Criminal Justice Technology, Early Childhood Education, Human Services Technology, Automotive Systems Technology, Business Administration, Computer Information Technology, Cosmetology, Cyber Crime Technology, Electric Lineman Technology, Geospatial Technology, Healthcare Management Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, Medical Office Administration, Dental Hygiene, Health Information Technology, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, Radiography, Surgical Technology, and many more.
Aside from the above mentioned programs, Edgecombe Community College also offers College Transfer programs in several areas of study, with the curriculum designed so students can continue their education towards a Bachelor's Degree in a four-year college or university. Transfer programs include Associate in Fine Arts, Associate in General Education, Associate in Science/Pre-Engineering, and others.
Edgecombe Community College has an extensive distance learning program that allows students who are not able to physically attend classes on campus to complete their courses online. The quality and standards of the Curriculum Online Classes are the same as those in traditional face-to-face classroom settings. There are also hybrid courses, which combine both online and face-to-face instruction. Using Moodle, the course management system utilized by Edgecombe, students can continue their learning wherever they are with a Web-enabled device and reliable Internet access. Many of the programs offered at Edgecombe Community College have online courses available, but four programs in particular - Accounting, Business Administration, Health Information Technology, and Geospatial Technology - may be completed fully online.
Continuing Education programs are also available at Edgecombe Community College through its Corporate and Community Development Division. The programs are designed for the interests and needs of adult learners in a wide range of careers and industries. There are on- and off-campus courses at very flexible times throughout the day. College and Career Readiness programs offered include Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language Program, General Education Development Program, and more.
Meanwhile, courses are also offered in the areas of Career Readiness, Business and Industry Services (Public Courses, Lean Six Sigma, Intro to Electronics Manufacturing, Customized Training Courses), Health Occupations (Nurse Assistant, Medication Aide, Phlebotomy), Human Resources Development, Small Business Center, Workforce Development and Training Center (Adult OJT, Exemplary Youth Program), and many others.
Students at Edgecombe Community College are encouraged to participate in the many activities and programs of the Student Government Association, as well as the other student organizations and clubs that operate on campus. Student organizations include Phi Theta Kappa, Student Nurses Association, Radiologic Technology Society, Human Services Organization, ECC Ambassadors, and the Health Information Technology Society for Students and Alumni. The activity fee paid by students funds the different events and programs organized by the Student Government Association each academic year.
